Synopsis
Días de entretiempo opens with a statement of purpose: the author writes to give voice to what she has been carrying alone. From there, the book unfolds across four seasons arranged not in calendar order but in the order of a wound — Spring, Winter, Summer, Autumn — and moves between two kinds of poem: dated pieces that work like diary entries caught almost in the moment, and titled poems written with the distance needed to name what could not be named at the time. In Spring, the speaker revisits the end of a relationship with the disbelief of someone who has not yet taken in the loss, moving through memories of shared places, a city — Barcelona — marked forever, and the sustaining presence of a family that does not leave. Winter is the lowest point: here come the anger, the sense of having been judged in public over a story she never chose to share, and the most extreme metaphors of pain, ones that go so far as to call the break-up a figurative murder. Summer brings an unexpected turn: the possibility of a new love that restores colour, the city and the will to live, without entirely denying the old scar or the fragility of trusting again. Autumn closes the cycle with acceptance — the certainty that some things do not come back, a deliberate decision to let go, and a series of poems in dialogue with mortality itself and with the possibility of prayer, even when one no longer quite knows how to pray. The book ends with an 'Author's Note' that sets aside the poetic mask to speak in the first person about the real process of writing and healing: the need to stop, to look inward, to break open once more before being able to love again. Without resolving the pain entirely — the book is honest about that — Días de entretiempo offers a complete passage through the stages of a contemporary heartbreak, shadowed throughout by the awareness of writing in public and by the conviction, repeated like a mantra across its pages, that the in-between is also a place where one can live.

Días de entretiempo is the fifth book by Laura Stern, a young Spanish poet whose confessional voice has built a loyal readership across four previous titles and earned her a 2025 literary award from the city of Getafe. Structured in four seasons presented out of calendar order — Spring, Winter, Summer, Autumn — the collection maps a breakup not chronologically but emotionally, moving from denial through rage, an unexpected new love, and finally acceptance. The book alternates two distinct poetic registers: dated poems that read like raw diary entries, and titled poems written with reflective distance, a formal device that gives the collection an unusually diaristic architecture within the crowded field of confessional 'Instagram poetry.' Several poems turn self-referential, with the speaker addressing herself in the third person as 'this author' to confront public judgment of her private life — a meta-poetic gesture that speaks directly to a generation navigating visibility and heartbreak in public. The collection closes with an author's note that steps outside the poetic frame to reflect plainly on the cost of healing. Comparable to Rupi Kaur's Home Body and Lang Leav's Sea of Strangers in tone and readership, but distinctly rooted in Spanish literary tradition, citing García Lorca and Bécquer alongside a Freddie Mercury epigraph. The book targets women readers aged 16 to 30 who follow confessional poetry communities on Instagram and TikTok, a readership segment that has proven highly translatable across Spanish-, English- and Portuguese-language markets. Foreign publishers seeking accessible, highly quotable poetry with strong social-media potential and an author who already commands an engaged following will find a natural fit here.

Laura Stern
Getafe · 1995
She writes from the need to name what is invisible: what pulses between words, in the spaces of silence and held emotion. With four books published — Destruir para crecer. Vivir para morir (2022), Las ventajas y desventajas de amar (2022), A mis flores marchitas (2023) and Los secretos del bosque (2024) — her voice has found its audience among those who look to literature for both a mirror and a window. In 2025, the Ayuntamiento de Getafe awarded her its prize for young people in the Literature category, recognition of her commitment to writing that is honest and illuminating.
