Synopsis
Valencia, 2025. Santillana Biotech is facing the worst crisis in its history: the press is speculating, investors are wavering, and the board — Ferran Santillana, Elena Blanco, Rubén Gallardo and researcher Marcos Blanco — is desperately searching for a way to salvage the company's image. The solution arrives with a name: Paulo Montaner, a consultant with a reputation for rescuing failing brands in record time.
What no one knows is that Paulo was familiar with the company long before Elena picked up the phone. His real objective is to infiltrate the ethics committee and seize control of Project Génesis: a consciousness-transfer technology developed in secret by Héctor Santillana, funded through the black market. When Héctor dies in circumstances the police record as suicide, Paulo begins weaving a web of manipulation that draws in everyone around him.
Marcos Blanco — brilliant researcher and Elena's brother — is the piece Paulo needs to unlock full access to the project. He seduces him, blackmails him, and finally makes him complicit in a crime neither of them can undo. Meanwhile, Elena is fighting her own battle against terminal cancer, kept alive by an experimental treatment that Clara and Marcos devise in secret, at an ethical cost no one is willing to name aloud. Ferran, holding the company together from the top, finds in Rubén an unexpected possibility of love.
Inspector Patricia Santoro and her partner, Officer Javier Correa, are connecting the threads: too many deaths, too many reports signed by the same doctor, a pattern that keeps pointing — without conclusive proof — to the same man. When the net tightens, Paulo is arrested at an airfield outside Castellón. But his arrest is, in fact, the final piece of a plan orchestrated from the shadows by Atenea Caballero, his grandmother: the true architect of everything that has happened since Paulo was a child.
What follows moves the story to Casablanca, where an international criminal network, a clandestine laboratory and a woman held captive for years are waiting to complete the final phase of a project that began thirty years earlier — on the afternoon a seven-year-old boy pushed his older brother into a pond and felt nothing as he watched him drown.

CUIDA DE MÍ (LOOK AFTER ME) is a Spanish psychological thriller that fuses corporate noir, bio-speculative fiction, and family drama into a propulsive, morally unsettling read. Paulo Montaner is a brilliant corporate consultant hired to save a failing Valencian biotech company, Santillana Biotech, from collapse. What no one knows is that Paulo has been planning this infiltration his entire life: his real target is Genesis, a black-market consciousness-transfer project hidden inside the company's ethics committee. As Paulo seduces, blackmails, and dismantles everyone around him — Marcos, the scientist who falls for him; Elena, a cancer patient saved by an illicit gene therapy; Ferran, the CEO trying to become a better man — a detective, Patricia Santoro, begins noticing a trail of deaths that is always too clean to be coincidence. When the net finally closes around Paulo, his capture turns out to be exactly what he orchestrated: an escape route designed by his grandmother, Atenea Caballero, the true architect behind decades of manipulation, murder, and a transnational trafficking network. The story crosses the Mediterranean to Casablanca, where the technology reaches its final, chilling stage. Written with the cold precision of a technothriller and the emotional pull of a character study, CUIDA DE MÍ sits at the crossroads of Alex Michaelides' THE SILENT PATIENT, Kazuo Ishiguro's speculative ethics, and the charismatic-psychopath tradition of Patricia Highsmith's Ripley novels. It also offers a rare, unforced portrayal of queer relationships inside the traditionally male-coded Spanish noir genre. This debut novel by Roberto Miralles is published by Durii Editorial (Spain) under its Negra y Thriller imprint, April 2026. Its multiple points of view, escalating reveals, and deliberately unresolved ending make it a strong candidate for limited series adaptation. Rights are currently available for all territories outside Spain.
